  1. This first release version of the MIDISport drivers requires the new
  2. Macintosh operating system, OS 8.6. This is offered by Apple as a free 
  3. update to OS 8.5 owners.  Please check the Apple website at 
  4. http://asu.info.apple.com for update information.  The drivers will work 
  5. in the 8.5 operating system, but the user may experience 
  6. crashes that are random in nature (from several minutes to several
  7. hours).  If running on OS 8.5, we recommend saving your work often.

  9. NOTE: This driver release allows for hot plugging/unplugging of the
  10. MIDISport. As of yet however, only one MIDISport can be configured and
  11. used with OMS.  Please check the MIDIMAN website for driver updates at
  12. www.midiman.net.
  13.  
  14. There are 4 driver components that need to be properly placed in your
  15. system.  Please note that the MIDISPort driver for Macintosh is an OMS
  16. driver.  You will need to install Opcode's Open Music System (OMS)
  17. software FIRST to use the MIDISport as a multiport MIDI interface.  There
  18. is a link to Opcode's site from our website's driver page.  The URL for 
  19. this is http://www.opcode.com.  OMS may also be included in your music
  20. software package.  Once you have OMS installed, you should:
  21.  
  22. 1.  Click on the MIDISportDriver file and drag it to the Extensions
  23. folder.
  24.  
  25. 2.  Click on the USBMIDISportShim file and drag it to the Extensions
  26. folder.
  27.  
  28. 3.  Click on the MIDISportLoader file and drag it to the Extensions folder.  
  29.  
  30. 4.  Click on the MIDISport OMS driver and drag it to the OMS Folder. 
  31. The OMS folder will also be found in the Systems folder (as is the
  32. Extensions folder).

  34. 5.  Restart your computer.  You are now ready to configure OMS.
  35.  
  36. Go to the Control Panel or Chooser under the Apple Menu, and make sure
  37. AppleTalk is turned off  (this is recommended, although OMS will sense
  38. that it is on and prompt you to turn it off).  If you are installing
  39. your MIDISport driver and configuring OMS for the first time, follow
  40. these instructions to configure OMS.

  42. First Time OMS Configuration Instructions
  43.  
  44. 1.  In the Opcode folder, which you will find on your hard drive, locate the 
  45. OMS Applications folder, then OMS Setup.  Double click on OMS Setup.  
  46.  
  47. 2.  OMS will inform you that it has not yet been configured.  Click OK.
  48.  
  49. 3.  The Create A New Studio Setup dialog box now appears.  Click OK.
  50.  
  51. 4.  The "OMS Driver Search" box asks you to choose the port on which
  52. you've attached the MIDISport (either Modem or Printer).  DO NOT choose
  53. a port, just click "Search."  OMS begins Searching.  IMPORTANT: If the
  54. USB cable is not correctly hooked up to the MIDISport, setup will fail.

  56. 5.  "OMS Driver Setup" shows the MIDISport in a list when OMS
  57. successfully finds the driver.  Click OK.  OMS will now define (shows
  58. "Identifying") both of the MIDISport output ports.  Please note that
  59. OMS sees the MIDISport ports A and B as ports 1 and 2 (this is an OMS
  60. idiosyncrasy).

  62. 7.  The "OMS MIDI Device Setup" dialog box will appear showing the
  63. MIDISport's two available output ports with open check boxes to the
  64. left of each port.  You will now have to check these open boxes to
  65. enable each of the output ports.  Now click on OK.

  67. 8.  Next, the "My Studio Setup" appears with a file save dialog box
  68. over it.  You will now need to name and save your new Studio Setup
  69. before you can assign various instruments to the MIDISport's outputs
  70. and inputs.  Assign your various instruments and you are done.  You may
  71. now exit OMS Setup by quitting the application.
